SOS - Ed Marler by Theo Adams Company

The Theo Adams Company created the Theatrical Direction for Ed Marler's SS16 presentation at London Fashion Week.

Vogue.com Editors and Contributors on Their Favorite Spring 2016 Moments-

"It was great to see so many super-organized “big” shows in London—Erdem,J.W.Anderson, Christopher Kane, Simone Rocha, and Mary Katrantzou—but rounding a corner in grungy Soho and walking into this “postapocalyptic” backstreet scene by Ed Marler was my best surprise of the week. Less a show or a presentation than a half-theatrical happening, these girls, dressed in their defiantly decaying finery, were pacing a cul-de-sac, lost in their own demented world—with some pretty fabulous bags and crowns in the bargain. “The collection’s called S.O.S.,” said Marler. “I imagined they were the last people left, and had scrabbled their clothes together from works of art.” I loved it that spontaneous, on-a-shoestring fashion can literally spring up on the street in London, in the time-honored Central Saint Martins style (Marler graduated two years ago), but it’s also cheering to see such small-fry designers swimming right ahead into creating emotional experiences. Marler worked with Theo Adams Company, a young theater direction company, to make this moment!" Sarah Mower, Vogue.com Chief Critic

Transcendence and manipulation: Matthew Stone and Theo Adams discuss their January issue shoot by Theo Adams Company

Matthew Stone interviewed Theo Adams about their latest collaboration for Dazed and Confused Magazine.

"In our January issue shoot, ‘Varieties of Religious Experience’, performers – some of which are part of the Theo Adams Company – contort across the images, shot and subsequently collaged by photographer (and performance artist himself) Matthew Stone. Like peering through keyholes, we glimpse flesh and limbs, a circle of suited men in meditation, and expressions frozen in a moment of ecstasy. Adams’ and his performers come as their own characters, in the brutally honest and ultimately captivating style of performance his company has become known for. Stylist Katie Shillingford dresses these characters as if they had walked from their own stage wardrobes: like that of Andy, captured in a crucified stance, looking down upon those gathered below him in the futuristic cult leather of Alexander McQueen. United as a collective, the company pass through the varieties of transcendental experience – meditation, anguish and joy – a fluid performance paused for one, drawn-out second."

In the following conversation, long time collaborators Matthew Stone and Theo Adams discuss emotional manipulation, the power of a claustrophobic playlist, and Eurovision as the greatest work of art of the 20th century.
